Treats for Japhy
Japhy meets the blender monster, and other good fun
I’ve made these fun little “making homemade treats” videos for every dog that’s been a part of my life. Cell phones and mobile editing apps make it easy, and I enjoy putting them together. None of the other videos are on this blog. They were quickly made and posted to Instagram before I started the Love Dogs pack and created this blog space. I hope, though, that you will enjoy this one. I’ll share the recipe below the video.
Banana-Blueberry Frozen Yogurt Treats for Dogs
2 pounds blueberries
2 bananas
1 8oz package cream cheese (regular fat)
2 cups plain low fat Greek yogurt
Blend all of the ingredients until the mixture is able to be poured, then pour (or spoon) into your molds. Freeze for a few hours, or overnight. Pop them out of the molds and into a storage container and keep in freezer for food-topper or the occasional treat.
Misc Notes:
You could alter the above recipe to include your dog’s favorite fruit/other ingredients, of course. Japhy just happens to absolutely love bananas and blueberries. So much so that if he is outside in the yard and I need him to come in, all I have to say is “Japhy want blueberries?” and he’ll usually come running. Apparently, blueberries and bananas taste better than poop. Anyway, given that I’ve lost both of my other pups to some form of cancer—and blueberries are known to have cancer-fighting properties—I’m happy that he’ll eat them. I’ll also eventually try a recipe with bananas and peanut butter. Simply Jif is at least one PB brand that doesn't contain xylitol, which is toxic for dogs. It’s also good to note that blackberries and raspberries naturally contain small amounts of xylitol; however, it seems the general consensus is that both are OK for dogs in small quantities. Here’s a list I found of fruits that are OK for dogs to eat: https://www.sunrisevet.ca/news/2017/6/23/fruits-vegetables-dogs-can-and-cant-eat .
I'm going to start slowly introducing Japhy to leafy greens soon as well. We'll see how that goes. Heck, at this rate, *I* might even start eating better.
Hope you enjoyed the video.
