Säker Canine's newest crash-tested modular harness: the Lander™
Hi, friends. I recently did an overview video of the Säker Canine Lander harness, and that video is now on the Love Dogs YouTube channel (shared below). This is Säker’s newest crash-tested modular harness. As some of you may recall, the Ascension, which was Säker’s very first crowd-funded harness, was crash-tested as well; however, the issue with the buckles resulted in the crash test certification being revoked. Any time anything changes on a piece of gear after a test occurs, a new test must be done. Test certification is only good for the exact gear used in the test. Säker has since discontinued the Ascension harness (we still have ours!), and has been busy working to improve the design. Since then, they’ve released the Canyon Light and Pro Series harnesses (we were able to test the Canyon Light harness and pack system last year), and the Muse harness (we were able to test the Muse harness and pack system this year), which aren’t crash-tested. Recently, they’ve come out with the Lander, which is crash tested and also still modular (serving as a backpacking system with the addition of the Pouches 001, a joring system with the addition of the Traction 001, a rescue harness with the addition of the K9-11 Rescue Sling, and a crash-tested vehicle restraint harness). We received a Lander to test a couple of months ago, and I just published an overview video below.
Even before I received the Lander, I was 90% sure we were going to stick with the Muse system. I don’t have a need for the crash-tested functionality, as I don’t have seats with seatbelts in the back of the van. Additionally, the Muse harness fits both of my dogs really well. Better than any other harness we’ve ever tried, including the Ascension, which despite the heavier weight had really been my favorite backpacking system for the dogs since it came out (prior to that we’d used the Mountainsmith K9 packs for several years). I plan to do a detailed written review and video of the Muse harness and pack system after we have some solid trail time with it, but I have high hopes for it. I talk about it briefly in the Lander video linked above, but the fabric of the Muse molds to the dogs’ [very differently shaped] bodies better than anything we’ve used, and I anticipate that will make a difference with regard to chafing and general comfort on multi-day backpacking trips. I won’t have any solid input until after we’ve been able to put it to our usual rigorous backcountry test, but I’ve used enough dog backpacks in my lifetime now that I have a pretty good idea of what will work with my specific dogs and what won’t, and I’m feeling very optimistic about the Muse.
All of that said, if you backpack with your dogs, and you also have a seat with seatbelts in the back of your vehicle and therefore could use the crash-tested functionality of the Lander, please watch my full video, because there’s a surprise at the end.
Okay, I suck at surprises. I’m giving away the Lander harness! But you have to be in the contiguous U.S. (sorry), and you have to comment on the YouTube video in order to be entered in the drawing, which I will do on August 15, 2025 at 7 p.m. Central Time. I’ll post the winner in a comment on the YouTube video and pin it to the top of the comments, so you can return to that video to see who the winner is after August 15 at 7 p.m. Central.
Here are the details of the Lander harness I’m giving away:
It is a size Medium, which according to Säker’s website fits a girth of 76-91 cm or 30-35.9 inches. It is exactly like the Muse, except that it has Aluminum 7075 buckles (instead of high strength polymer) and the fabric is ripstop (instead of DWR LoonSkin™). You can use the sizing guide on Säker’s website to ensure proper fit.
It is the Alpine Orange color, which really is stunning.
The drawing is for the harness only, so you will have to purchase your own Pouches 001 and other accessories if you like.
I will pay for shipping (contiguous U.S. only).
Please make sure the size Medium Lander will fit your dog before entering the drawing, as this harness is not returnable.
I think that’s the gist of it. If you have any questions, or if I’ve left out any important info, please leave a comment and I’ll respond as soon as I’m able.
Before I close, I’d like to just add that I’m really excited to be able to give away this Lander harness. I don’t have a lot of money. Admittedly, those times when I find myself wishing I was rich arise from a desire to be in a better position to help others. High quality gear is pricey, and it can be tough to prioritize it. So, I’m really glad that I can pass this on to someone else. And I’m grateful to Chris, from Säker, for continuing to value my feedback enough to continue sending me products to test from time to time. I take this role seriously, because I want the best gear for my dogs. So far, I really like what Säker’s doing, and I look forward to what they create for us hardcore outdoor human-canine adventure duos in the future.
Be well, fellow Love Dogs. ♥️
